These are Antonio's words at the beginning of THE MERCHANT OF VENICE. As the Merchant, Antonio, I spoke these words in a drama school production in London when I was 24 years old. That's a young age to try to find all the subtextual meanings behind the Bard's words. Now, at the tender age of my later middle years I see the profundity.
