Awards

NTC Person(s) of the Year Award

The NTC President, in consultation with the Board of Trustees, selects one or more individuals each year who have made an outstanding and noteworthy contribution to the theatre. The Person(s) of the Year attend the annual meeting to receive the award, speak about their life and work in the theatre, and announce the recipient of the Paul Green Foundation Award.

The Paul Green Award

The Paul Green Award recognizes and encourages excellence in new professional theatre talent. It is presented to a young theatre artist selected by the National Theatre Conference’s "Person of the Year.”  It has been given since 1988. 

This award is named for Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Paul Green who served as the National Theatre Conference President in 1941 and ‘42 and served on the Executive Committee in 1944 and ‘45. Paul Green was on the drama faculty at the University of North Carolina, one of the 1925 original theatre department organizers of what was to become the National Theatre Conference.The Award is funded by The Paul Green Foundation.

Barrie and Bernice Stavis Playwriting Award

Honoring distinguished American Playwright Barrie Stavis, this $2,000 Award is presented to recognize an outstanding emerging playwright.

Outstanding Theatre Award

This $1,000 Award is presented to recognize outstanding achievement by a not-for-profit theatre.

NTC Emerging Professional Award

This $1,000 Award is presented to a person demonstrating exemplary promise in a professional theatre organization. The winner of this award is selected by the artistic director of the winner of the National Theatre Conference Outstanding Theatre Award for that year.
