National Leadership Project

NTC recognizes that many individuals and institutions are interested in the opportunity to diversify their leadership ranks and that some have a mandate to do so. Among the roadblocks often articulated by those with such interests is the difficulty in identifying a viable and diverse candidate pool. In support of this effort, as part of its mission to ensure the health of the American theatre for future generations, the National Theatre Conference has compiled this diverse group of experienced leaders interested in exploring new opportunities.

The women and people of color in this cohort bring with them a vast array of experience and sensibilities. It is not our intention to advocate for them individually for a specific position; we simply want to make it easy for search committees and institutional representatives of organizations such as yours to visit the profiles of these artists and make those determinations for yourselves.

FAQs about this list

How were the candidates on this list selected?

In order to be included on this list, candidates had to be recommended by one of the 144 professional and academic theatre leaders who comprise the membership of the National Theatre Conference.

What is the National Theatre Conference?

Founded in 1925, The National Theatre Conference is a not-for-profit organization made up of distinguished members of the American Theatre Community who come together with a mission of connecting, supporting and advocating for the American Theatre. You can find out more about NTC, and find a list of its members on our website.

What criteria did NTC members use in selecting these candidates?

We asked members, as leaders in the theatre community themselves, to connect us with women and persons of color who had the experience (artistic and leadership) and vision necessary to lead a major theater/arts institution or program.

How often is this list updated?

We will update the list whenever a new candidate is nominated to the list. If you would like to receive an email whenever the list is updated, you can let us know by sending an email to: secretaryntc@gmail.com
