Having been raised in the hills of North Carolina, Reid pursued academic study at several colleges and universities in fields ranging from sociology and theology to modern dance, mime and Asian theatre.  This journey also included Protestant Ministry, two Fulbrights (to India and Thailand, respectively), establishing a Mime Theatre and School, performing in various solo as well as full-scripted venues and university teaching.

His most recent performing activities have included playing Sly in Taming of the Shrew, Professor in Thumbs  (a new script) and Administrator in Visor’s Down (a short film).  For the past two years he has taught Architecture as Extended Mask at the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and is slated next term to teach Communication: Physical, Oral and Written. at the Taliesin West campus in Scottsdale, AZ.

Having conducted many classes and workshops on masks, he recently concluded a residency, Masking and Unmasking Your Partner and Your Self in Sedona, AZ.
Dr. Gilbert is available for semester and short term residencies: Directing [Commedia del Arte , Asian scripts] , teaching [Mime, Movement for Actors, Asian Theatre], performing [To Tell a Tale or Two (mime, song, folk tales and poetry)] and workshopping [The Self Mask].
